The gymnasium project for the RNZAF was particularly sensitive to budget constraints and public scrutiny. Completed in May 1999 to tight budget controls, the new recreation and gymnasium facility provides space for basketball, netball, and badminton courts, a spectator gallery, weight room, administration centre, toilets, and changing facilities.
Its innovative structure and aerofoil form was a reaction to the site and The RNZAF's need to utilise existing steel purchased for another aborted project.
