"Design @ Home" was engaged to create a contemporary style holiday home on the new Whitianga Waterways, overlooking the clients leisure boat moored on the Canal Frontage. The owners' wanted a self contained guest area that visitors could use when they were not there, without accessing the main living areas of the house.
The design creates a 'glass box' with motorised external louvers to provide a grand two storey living and entertainment area.
The result is an open, light filled home with easy access to the Canal and outdoor lap pool. The user friendly sliding and operable louvers allow the owners functional control of the light level and privacy while at the same time creating whimsical effects internally and externally. The simple material palette of honed and polished concrete, steel, glass (frosted, clear and evergreen) and white painted interiors gives a fresh, open and playful contemporary style that has been welcomed and enjoyed by the owners.
