The Arts Block project was the second of a three stage redevelopment Peddle Thorp and Montgomery undertook at Hutt Valley High School.
The two storied building comprises three art studios, three classrooms, a photography suite, computer suites, project rooms, and staff offices and storage. The main entry and circulation areas are designed to double as exhibition areas and includes a purpose designed artwork in the entry lobby stairwell.
The building is generally naturally ventilated, with clerestory lighting to upper central zones and solar shading.
