In the second half of the twentieth century, the Heide Estate was a creative haven for Australia's artistic and literary community, and it maintains to this day an outstanding collection of Australian modern art. The redevelopment addressed the demand for additional exhibition and storage spaces. Accordingly, Peddle Thorp created a new building that was sympathetic to the existing complex.
